SuperPower of the Week:  Visibility
Be real. Be brave. Be seen.

Many traditional superheroes value Invisibility. You know, Wonder Woman with her invisible jet, and Harry Potter with that sweet invisibility cloak. But for solopreneurs, Visibility is where it’s at.

As a solopreneur, you are your business, and marketing your business means you are essentially marketing yourself. Ergo, you need to be Visible in order to market your business effectively.

Be real.Be real. (2)

Visibility goes hand in hand with authenticity. The willingness to be your real, imperfect self is the first step to achieving visibility.

Can you have visibility without authenticity? Yes. But you will be a marketing cliche. (Excuse me while I breathe into a paper bag. The thought of that makes me feel a little sick.)

Without authenticity your visibility and marketing message is like a paper doll. Flat. Boring. Forgettable. In contrast, with authenticity, your marketing message is like a live Lady Gaga concert. Dynamic, unique, fascinating! People will take notice and dance along. Which would you rather be?

Be brave.

Having the courage to step into the light and be seen as your authentic self is one of the most challenging parts of learning to be visible. But it’s also incredibly rewarding.Be BRAVE.

Being your authentic self is all well and good, but if you only do it behind closed doors, it doesn’t mean much. If Lady Gaga only ever sang and danced around in her living room and didn’t share her voice and creative talents with the world, that would be a darn shame, wouldn’t it?

You are no different than Lady Gaga. You’ve got gifts, and a unique essence that resonates with your target market. But in order for your clients to connect with your essence, you have to shine a light on it so your tribe can find you.

And ok, let’s be honest. Putting yourself out there in this way can range from feeling new and unfamiliar to downright terrifying. You have to feel the fear and do it anyway. This is the path to true visibility.

Look at it this way. Ultimately, Harry Potter had to die to save everyone. But only for a little while. And then he got to come back and save the world.

You don’t have to die (and please don’t). You just have to be uncomfortable. And only for a little while. That’s not so bad in comparison, is it?

And then you get to come back and serve your clients more powerfully – your special way of saving the world! Can I get a hell yes?

Be seen.

Once you step into visibility from that authentic place, it will shift from feeling scary to feeling right. You will wonder, what took me so long? I feel totally empowered! Why didn’t I do this sooner??Be seen.

There is no time like the present, so stop sitting around waiting for your paper-doll marketing plan to transform itself. Get out there, get visible, and save the world!

Here are a few questions to get you started and help you become Visible in your business.

If you’re serious about your business, don’t just skim through these questions!  Get your journal and a pen and take 15 minutes to understand what you need to get out of your living room and onto your proverbial stage.

  • What would it feel like to be myself at all times, including in my business?
  • In what ways could sharing my authentic self be empowering for myself? For others?
  • What are the best things about myself and my gifts that I can share with the world?
  • What are some imperfections I can share that my ideal clients would relate to and benefit from?
  • Am I feeling fear or discomfort about putting myself out there? If yes, where is it coming from?
  • What am I really afraid of? Is avoiding that fear more important than realizing my business vision?
  • What actions could I take this week to be more Visible?
